We are proud to have the best available technical staff and local and multi-lingual reception staff. This team of mainly female personnel allows Medscan to cater to the needs of all patients from various cultural backgrounds, with the highest level of service and patient care in a professional, friendly and timely manner. During any wait, our modern facility aims to bring a new level of patient comfort with lounges, coffee bar, kids area and multimedia facilities including use of iPads.
We have free undercover parking on site and are conveniently located close to Stockland Mall, Merrylands Train Station and bus interchange.
State of the art Equipment
Medscan Merrylands has Australia’s first Siemens FLASH CT with Stellar detectors. This CT is used at other Centres of Excellence including at Johns Hopkins and The Mayo Clinic in the USA. This machine is regarded as the world’s most advanced CT providing exquisite image detail at the lowest possible patient radiation dose.
The first MRI in Merrylands. This will be partially Medicare funded meaning GPs will be able to order certain MRIs at the bulk bill rate for the first time without the need for specialist referral.
Full range of imaging modalities including:
Digital Xray - Low dose shimadzu unit with image stitching - again the first in Australia.
All dental Xrays and examinations.
Ultrasound including Doppler, 3D/4D imaging and echocardiography.
Nuclear medicine imaging with CT SPECT and Bone Mineral Densitometry (starting September).
Also providing Paediatric and Womens imaging including Gynaecologic, Obstetric and Breast ultrasound and MRI.
Intervention Centre and Pain Management - Biopsies and Injections.

Dr John O’Rourke is the sole owner and Radiologist at Medscan Merrylands. He alone will look after the imaging and procedural needs of you and your patients 6 days per week.
He completed his Radiology training at St Vincents’ and Westmead Hospitals in Sydney and completed a one year Fellowship in Body Imaging and MRI at St Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada. He was then invited to assist in establishing the first MRI Service at Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, Canada.
On his return to Sydney, he worked at St Vincent’s General and Private Hospitals and for the last 5 years, he has been the Clinical Director and Head of Cardiac Imaging at the Westmead practice of a large corporate radiology group.
In addition to MRI, body and Cardiac Imaging expertise, he is an experienced Interventional Radiologist who performs all spinal and musculoskeletal injections. He is well regarded by his peers and is a regular invited speaker at national and international conferences.
